Girls’ Club Fellowship and Internship Application – Spring/Summer 2016

Girls’ Club is an alternative, non-profit art collection and exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art by women. Focusing on contemporary art by women, Girls’ Club presents exhibitions, publications, web projects and year-round public programming including art talks, workshops, community events, outreach programs, film screenings and more.

Continuing its dedication to education opportunities for local arts professionals, Girls’ Club seeks applications for its 2016 Fellowship and Internship programs.

Girls' Club Fellowship Program: Spring/Summer 2016

Applications Due: February 26, 2016

Girls’ Club seeks positive and action oriented candidates for its Spring/Summer 2016 Fellowship Program. Students in masters programs and/or recent graduates will gain a substantive understanding of arts administration and will contribute to Girls’ Club exhibitions and public programs. The Fellowship entails working closely with Girls’ Club Gallery Director and Creative Director, and the development of independent projects relating to curatorial, collection management, education, publications and/or online media.  Ideal candidates will have excellent communications skills (written and verbal) and be highly motivated, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and comfortable within a demanding creative environment.

Fellows will benefit from hands-on practical experience that is nearly impossible to acquire through traditional classroom studies. A thorough introduction to the inner workings of a private collection and active art center at all levels will be available.

Fellowship position will be available for Spring/Summer 2016 (March – July 2015). Fellows are employed 15 hours a week for 5/6-month period and receive a stipend of $3000.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work 3 days per week on-site, Wednesday – Friday, 1-5pm, as well as occasional weekend and evening hours to assist with workshops, exhibition openings, screenings, performances and special events as available.
  • Each fellow will develop, seek funding, promote and implement an independent project which may include an exhibition, publication, video or other project.
  • Daily duties may include archiving, arts administration, press, digital, social media work and more.
  • A background or knowledge in art, art history, contemporary art and/or women’s studies.
  • Experience with Mac OS, Microsoft Word/Excel and Social Media is required.
  • Experience with WordPress, Photoshop, Illustrator and AV equipment/software is a plus.

Girls’ Club Internship Program: Spring/Summer 2016

Girls’ Club seeks positive and action oriented interns for its ongoing Internship Program. Candidates in their junior or senior years of college, those in masters programs and/or recent graduates will gain a substantive understanding of arts administration and will contribute to Girls’ Club public programs, events and web presence. The Internship entails working closely with Girls’ Club Gallery Director on graphic design, social media and web based projects along with daily duties at the gallery. Interns are also encouraged to develop an independent project for online media or publication.  Ideal candidates will have excellent communications skills (written and verbal) and be highly motivated, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and comfortable within a demanding creative environment.
