Girls ‘n Power group visits Frances Trombly exhibition at Girls’ Club
Teens from Broward County’s PACE Center for Girls visited the exhibition Frances Trombly: Paintings with their group leaders and artist and educator Sue Aguilera from Young at Art Museum. Girls’ Club has collaborated with the museum on this specialized program of artmaking and esteem-building for teenage girls for two years. We all discussed what makes an object a work of art and the difference between art and craft, among other things. The girls came to their visit with some art experience already under the belts, and they will continue in their weekly meetings with Young at Art staff through the end of the school year. Girls’ Club Creative Director Michelle Weinberg will lead the group in a needlework activity inspired by Frances Trombly’s woven sculptures.
