Artists in Action! Workshop inspires collage creations
Miami-based artist Odalis Valdivieso’s mixed media, process-heavy creations playfully expand the the scope of photography, incorporating elements of collage, space, sculpture and paper assemblage into flattened, hyper 2D prints. Using photography to capture her collages, the camera plays an interesting role as a visual translator, flattening the space dimensional space in which the collages inhabit, and transforming depth and shadows in to mere shapes and line.
After speaking to a full audience Friday evening about her work and process, Odalis led a small group of artists Saturday afternoon in the creation of their own collage-prints as part of the Artists in Action! series of artist talks and workshops. Sifting and flipping through magazines, artists found inspiration in the repeated patterns, bold graphics and color fields of the glossys’ pages.
