Small Works Exhibition Open Call w/ Magenta Foundation and Humble Arts

This June, Humble Arts Foundation, in conjunction with Magenta Foundation, will present Small Works, an exhibition of 50, 8 x 10 inch photographic prints curated by Jon Feinstein and Amani Olu. Feinstein and Olu will select works from an international open call to exhibit at the Flash Forward Festival in Boston.
Small Works encourages artists and viewers to move past the idea that “bigger is better,” and instead demands a more intimate interaction with the work. We are interested in work that in small size encourages a delicacy not often taken with images viewed at large scale or online, and a return to appreciating the photographic print as a distinct object. As with other Humble exhibitions, we are interested in a range of work that pushes the boundaries of the photographic medium, breaking from rigid genre-based classifications for a more fluid understanding of photography’s potential. Eligibility
All artists working with photography are eligible, regardless of geographic location.

Text Submission
Project statement: 300-words or less
Bio: 200-words or less
CV: One-page

Image Submission
Image size: 600 pixels on the longest side for horizontal images, 450 pixels on the shortest side for vertical images.
Image format: .jpg, sRGB, 72dpi

Image Files
Rename each image with your first and last name (ex. 1john_doe.jpg, 2john_doe.jpg, etc.)

Submission Fees
Members: Free (Become a member)
Non-members: $49 for up to ten images

300-word or less project statement
200-words or less text bio
PayPal confirmation number (If you are a member, please indicate such)
Once you have compiled all the necessary information within the body of an email, please attach your images and CV and send to [email protected].

ONLY ATTACH IMAGES AND CV. DO NOT ATTACH ANY OTHER DOCUMENT FILES.

We will not consider incomplete submissions. Submission with CMYK image files, TIFs or zipped folders will be immediately rejected.

Notification: Monday, March 5th, 2012

Please note: All participating artists are responsible for the printing, framing, mounting and shipping their work in both directions as well as insuring it while it is in transit. The Magenta Foundation will insure the works while they are on display in the gallery. Additionally, because of the nature of the exhibition, selected photographers will be required to print their work at exactly 8 x 10 inches and frame it in simple white wood frame.
