Photography to Prose: writing workshop for artists and writers

led by Girls’ Club writer-in-residence Denise Delgado
Four Thursdays, 6-8pm
November 10, 17 and December 8, 15
$125

Registration Deadline Monday, November 7

In this 4-session workshop, Girls’ Club exhibition Re-Framing the Feminine becomes both work space and material for jumpstarting new writing. Together the class will look at and discuss photographs in the exhibition, exploring their potential use as prompts, subject matter, and imagery. Excerpts of relevant work by other writers may be introduced, such as Susan Sontag’s On Photography or short stories by intensely visual writers like Merce Rodoreda or Mavis Gallant.

New work will take shape through both writing exercises and open writing time. We’ll create a stimulating and respectful environment in which you can develop initial notes and sketches further through revision and feedback from the group. The workshop will focus mostly on generating early drafts of short prose, especially fiction and essays, but participants may also explore poetry and hybrid forms. Students will receive personalized feedback from the instructor on their manuscripts. Writers of all levels of experience are welcome, as are visual artists interested in exploring writing.

Registration is limited to 15 students. Call or email for more info or to register, 954-828-9151 or [email protected]
