Floating

On View June 26 - September 25, 2026

Girls’ Club Collection presents the guest exhibit Floating, a photography series by Janet Kelfer that dives into the world of botany and macro photography from an unlikely perspective - underwater. These submerged worlds of giant petals, stems, leaves and stamen create a theatrical and dramatic stage for contemplating the arrival of South Florida's wet summer season.

"Water is elemental, necessary but also enigmatic. It can flow peacefully and yet is often dangerous. We cannot rule it. When we plunge into it, what is there is not what we think is there. Water changes. Or we change when we enter it. We must learn to move on its course, in truth we have little choice."

About the Artist

Janet Kelfer is a fine art photographer whose work explores memory, place, and the emotional power of light. Inspired by travel, art history, and the natural world, she creates images that invite contemplation and connection. Her photographs have been exhibited in galleries and cultural spaces throughout the United States.

From a very young age I remember my father and cameras. Maybe it is from him that I acquired my lifelong interest in the visual world, the detail, the colors. Photography is a way to see; to pay attention to the aspects and elements of a scene; to hold memory as it fades. My father built a darkroom with me in our home. I can see the two of us there developing images and a relationship. The original photos in-with one exception-Here and Gone are his. I have used them to convey that lost world. I want my photography to reveal the creation of intimacy with the world around me. To find balance and strength in what I see and how I see it.
