2013 Creative Capital Workshop for Artists in Gainesville, FL

WEEKEND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

Approximate Times:
Friday, January 25th – 5:00 – 9:00 pm
Saturday, January 26th – 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, January 27th – 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Details: This weekend workshop will provide selected artists with valuable skills and training to ensure that their creative careers are sustainable and flourish. The workshop is lead by 5 leaders from the Creative Capital Foundation and focuses on topics such as Strategic Planning, Marketing and Promoting Your Work, and Fundraising. In addition to the information on each of the topic areas, participants benefit from the interaction with the diverse group of participating artists. Materials are provided to artists who participate and time for one on one consultations with leaders are made for each artist throughout the weekend.

Eligible Artists: Florida artists in any discipline may apply. Only applicants who have NOT participated in a weekend workshop with the Creative Capital Foundation in the past are eligible to attend.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Participant Responsibilities:
These workshop opportunities are offered to selected artists free of charge through generous support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Citizens for Florida Arts, Inc. and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. This participation is equivalent to a $1,200 award. Artists selected to attend the workshops are responsible for the following things:

Transportation to and from the workshop location
Accommodations while staying in Gainesville (if traveling for the workshop).
Catering Fee to cover meals throughout the time of the workshop. Due to the tight schedule for the workshop events, meals are served on site. This fee will cover the following meals: Snacks and beverages Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday: Breakfast, Lunch, Coffee, Water, Tea, and Snacks. The fee is still not yet determined but will be forwarded to accepted artists as soon as it has been set. At past workshops it has not exceeded $70 for the weekend.
Artists selected to attend must agree to attend the full workshop.

About the Venue:
This year’s workshops will be presented in Gainesville at University Gallery at the University of Florida. University Gallery is a program of the School of Art + Art History at the University of Florida. The space features high quality contemporary art exhibitions featuring work from internationally recognized artists, University Faculty, University Students and MFA Thesis project exhibitions. About the Professional Development Program at Creative Capital:

Through workshops led by Creative Capital grantees and other arts professionals, PDP teaches artists about self-management, strategic planning, fundraising, verbal communication, promotion and maximizing online capabilities to help them expand their skills and build more sustainable practices.

About the Division of Cultural Affairs’ Programs for Individual Artists:
The Division of Cultural Affairs firmly believes that providing support and resources to Florida’s Individual Artists helps the all of Florida’s cultural landscape. The Division offers one grant program for individual artists, the Individual Artist Fellowship Program. The Fellowship Program provides monetary fellowship to Florida Artists to support their work and careers and to recognize the outstanding talent and artistic contributions of Florida artists. The Division has offered professional development opportunities for Florida artists since 2006. Through these opportunities, over 250 artists have been trained in career-building skills such as marketing, time management, fundraising, and strategic planning. This workshop offering is the latest in this series of opportunities.
