From its inception, Girls' Club has always defined itself as artist-centric. Founded by an artist and nurtured by more artists along the way, Girls' Club has committed itself to fostering awareness of the special contributions made by women to the field of contemporary art.

It's about artistic legacy. And this time it's personal.

While being a boss as a man is natural and expected, a reward for achievement, girls and women who exert power are labeled as bossy, inferring a clear demotion of status, a caricature or impostor.

Embracing the term "Boss Lady", this exhibition models how female artists, collectors and curators can create a female artistic legacy, an art story that reflects our images and priorities.

On view are works from our own studios, works from artists in the collection of Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz that have inspired us, and works by female artists from the collections of directors Sarah Michelle Rupert and Michelle Weinberg. Women presenting works by women is fundamental to our mission, and demonstrates a path forward toward re-shaping the conversation on contemporary art.
