Appropriated Gender @ 1310 Gallery

Gender identity is “an individual’s self-conception as being male or female, neither, or a mixture of both, as distinguished from actual biological sex.”

SUBMISSION INFO: Open call for visual & performance artists whose work relates to the topic of gender. Cash prizes, prominent guest judges, and possible Catalogue. The “Appropriated Gender” curatorial vision embraces diverse visual art and performance interpretations of gender perception and self-identity. It is the curator’s aim to examine how gender is portrayed visually, enlighten and challenge the audience, stimulating cultural discussion.
Open to all media, but contemporary approaches are encouraged, including 2D, 3D, Mixed media, Collage, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Digital art, Sculpture, Assemblage, Video art, and performance art. Art must have been created within the last 10 years. We also encourage proposals for performances and site-specific Installation art with explanation, including documentation of examples of previous work.
Please note: The gallery is an artist collective with a very small budget. Artists that are accepted for exhibition must be willing to deliver and pick up artwork at their own cost. Artists that are not within reasonable driving distance of Ft Lauderdale, FL, must be willing to ship the artwork to and from the gallery at your own cost.
To be considered, documentation of the artwork & proposals in Digital images, or video (documentation of performance or video art), must be submitted by email before Midnight, August 19, 2012.
Jury fee is a donation of $15.00 for up to 10 images, payable through paypal or by mail. Sorry we need to charge this, but the jury fee goes towards costs of the exhibit, including insurance. Images will not be considered before jury fee is received.
